Scotland has announced it will be providing care workers with a £500 ‘thank you’ for their collective sacrifice during the pandemic.
Making the announcement today, Nicola Sturgeon said that the one-off payment would be made to every full-time NHS worker as well as social care staff.
The announcement, made at the SNP conference, formed part of a wider effort to support healthcare workers after a difficult year with Scotland’s NHS trusts and hospitals at breaking point during the pandemic.
Insisting there would be “no strings attached”, the payments will be made tax-free to Scottish workers.
Pay for NHS staff is also set to be increased with efforts being made to hammer out an agreement on funding for salary rises.
